Shipping giant CMA CGM signs AI deal with Google

French shipping and logistics giant CMA CGM has entered a partnership with Alphabet’s Google to accelerate the implementation of AI solutions across its global operations, the two companies announced on Thursday.

CMA CGM aims to boost efficiency and reduce delivery times by optimizing routes, container handling, and inventory management while also cutting costs and minimizing carbon emissions.

CMA CGM’s Chairman and CEO, Rodolphe Saadé, described the partnership as a “crucial step” in the company’s transformation strategy.

Google France CEO Sébastien Missoffe stated that Google’s “infrastructure, data expertise, and long-term approach to AI” would support CMA CGM’s growth.

The group’s logistics arm, CEVA Logistics, will utilize Google’s AI-based management tools to improve warehouse operations through more accurate volume and demand forecasting.

Additionally, CMA CGM’s media division, which holds a stake in French private broadcaster M6 and acquired France’s leading rolling news channel BFM TV earlier this year, plans to develop tools to help journalists synthesize and translate documents, generate media snippets for social networks, and facilitate the digitization and research of archives.
