Microsoft Introduces Voice-Enabled ‘Copilot Vision’ AI for Edge in Preview

Microsoft has unveiled a new feature for its Edge browser, Copilot Vision, designed to enhance web browsing with AI assistance. Available in limited preview starting today, the feature allows users to interact with an AI that “sees” and analyzes the same web page they are viewing. Through voice commands, users can receive insights, recommendations, and observations tailored to the content they’re browsing.

This opt-in feature is initially accessible to a select group of paid Copilot Pro subscribers through Copilot Labs.

“Copilot Vision offers a fresh way to integrate AI into your web experience,” Microsoft explained in a blog post. “Nestled at the bottom of your Edge browser, it acts like a second set of eyes, ready to analyze, interpret, and provide helpful insights whenever you need them.”

First announced in October, Copilot Vision represents a broader push by Microsoft to develop AI as both an agent and companion for users. The tool is aimed at providing a seamless blend of assistance and interaction as users navigate the web.

However, Microsoft’s ongoing transition from the earlier, more utilitarian version of its Copilot sidebar in Edge to a conversational, consumer-focused adaptation has drawn mixed reactions. While the new direction emphasizes ease of use and accessibility, some users have expressed concerns about the trade-off in functionality.

With Copilot Vision, Microsoft continues its efforts to redefine how AI interacts with users in everyday tasks, promising an innovative browsing experience for early adopters.
