Apple is set to unveil a new iPhone model, the iPhone 17 Air, as part of its next major iPhone upgrade, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
This move seems like a natural way for Apple to expand its range, especially given the success of the “Air” branding for its thinner MacBooks and iPads (I’m currently writing this on my MacBook Air). The iPhone Air could offer a more attractive alternative compared to the iPhone Plus or mini.
Gurman reports that the iPhone 17 Air will feature Apple’s first in-house modem, which is expected to debut in the new iPhone SE this spring. The iPhone 17 Air is also anticipated to be Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever, being two millimeters slimmer than the current models. This could mark a step toward the foldable iPhone and iPad that Apple is rumored to be working on for a 2026 release or later.
In addition, Gurman outlines other Apple products expected to launch in 2025, including a smart home hub. However, a new version of the company’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, is notably absent from the list.
