Apple Watch Gets FDA Clearance for Hypertension Alerts

Apple’s upcoming watchOS 26 update will introduce a groundbreaking hypertension notification feature to the Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and newer models. The feature, which recently received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is set to launch worldwide next week.

The new tool was unveiled Tuesday alongside the Apple Watch SE3, Series 11, and Ultra 3. Using the built-in optical heart sensor, the watch analyzes how a user’s blood vessels respond to each heartbeat. Over a 30-day period, an advanced algorithm evaluates this data to identify potential signs of high blood pressure. If hypertension risk is detected, users will receive a notification.

Apple says the feature will be available in more than 150 countries and regions starting September 15th with the release of watchOS 26.
