DeepSeek Researcher Warns: AI Could Harm Humanity More Than It Helps

A senior researcher at the Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek warns that, despite its short-term benefits, AI could have a major negative impact on humanity in the long run.

At the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, researcher Chen Deli emphasized that in the next 5–10 years, AI technologies could lead to massive job losses. In 10–20 years, AI systems may take over most remaining human tasks, creating significant challenges for society.

He explained that AI companies must take on the role of “defenders” against the risks their own technology creates. Although he remains optimistic about the technological potential, he views the social impact far less positively.

About DeepSeek:
The Chinese company drew global attention after releasing a low-cost AI model in January called R1, which outperformed several top U.S. models in certain benchmarks.

Even more surprising, DeepSeek stated in a peer-reviewed paper that training R1 cost only $294,000, a dramatic contrast to the much higher budgets of U.S. competitors.

The American market reacted with shock: major tech companies collectively lost an estimated $1 trillion in market value, and Nvidia alone saw a drop of nearly $600 billion.
