Zoom has announced a new partnership with World, the digital identity company backed by Sam Altman, aiming to help users confirm that meeting participants are real people rather than AI-generated imposters. The move comes as deepfake fraud continues to grow across business environments.
The need for stronger verification is becoming urgent. In one of the most publicized cases, engineering firm Arup reportedly lost $25 million after an employee approved wire transfers during what appeared to be a routine video call involving senior executives. The participants on the call were later identified as AI-generated deepfakes. Similar incidents have also affected multinational companies across Asia.
Traditional deepfake detection tools often rely on analyzing video frames for visual inconsistencies. However, as AI-generated video becomes more advanced, these methods are becoming less effective. Zoom and World say a stronger identity layer is now needed for high-trust digital communication.
The new system uses World’s “World ID Deep Face” technology. Verification combines three signals: an image captured during registration through World’s Orb device, a live face scan from the participant’s device, and the real-time video feed visible in the meeting. When all three elements match, the participant receives a “Verified Human” badge inside the meeting.
For organizations, this could become especially valuable in finance, legal operations, executive communications, procurement, and any workflow involving sensitive approvals. Meeting hosts will also be able to require verification before participants enter a call, adding another layer of protection for high-risk conversations.
Beyond Zoom, World has been expanding partnerships with platforms such as Tinder and Visa, signaling a broader trend: as AI grows more capable, proving that a user is human may become a standard part of digital trust infrastructure.
For businesses, the message is clear. In the AI era, cybersecurity is no longer only about protecting systems. It is also about verifying identity in every interaction.
