Google is enhancing its Find My Device app with a new feature that lets you track not only your devices but also friends and family who share their location with you, as reported by 9to5Google. This addition, part of the Android March feature update, is now rolling out to more users.
Previously, Google Maps was the go-to app for viewing shared locations between friends and family. Now, the Find My Device app consolidates that functionality, allowing users to locate both devices and people in a single app. The new map feature also includes locations shared from Google Maps on iOS, ensuring cross-platform compatibility.
On Android, the app introduces a “People” tab where you can see the real-time locations of contacts who have chosen to share their whereabouts with you. There’s also a separate tab showing who you’re sharing your location with, offering controls to manage sharing duration and permissions.
The app’s updated interface bears a striking resemblance to Apple’s Find My app, featuring a similar split-screen layout: a map at the top and a list of either devices or people below, depending on what you’re tracking.
This streamlined experience makes it easier than ever for Android users to stay connected with loved ones while keeping track of their devices, all in one convenient place.
