Anthropic Introduces Hybrid AI Model with Enhanced Reasoning

Anthropic has unveiled its latest AI innovation—a hybrid reasoning model designed to generate faster responses while also offering an option to showcase its step-by-step thought process. This new model aims to strengthen Anthropic’s position in the competitive landscape of generative AI, where U.S. tech companies are contending with each other as well as Chinese firms like DeepSeek and Alibaba.

The Claude 3.7 Sonnet model, which the Amazon- and Google-backed company calls its most advanced yet, is now accessible across all Claude plans, including Free, Pro, Team, and Enterprise. However, its unique “extended thinking mode” is exclusive to paid subscribers.

With extended thinking mode enabled, the model engages in self-reflection before delivering answers, enhancing its accuracy in tasks such as mathematics, physics, coding, and instruction-following, according to Anthropic.

Unlike AI models that primarily focus on academic or computational challenges, Anthropic emphasizes that its latest hybrid model is tailored for practical, real-world applications, reflecting how businesses typically leverage large language models.

Additionally, Anthropic has introduced a limited-preview release of Claude Code, an AI-driven coding assistant that enables developers to delegate complex programming tasks directly from their terminal.

Despite offering users control over time and resources allocated to answering queries, the company has kept its pricing structure unchanged. Claude 3.7 Sonnet remains more cost-effective than OpenAI’s o1 model, priced at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens—significantly lower than OpenAI’s rates of $15 and $60, respectively.
