Apple is reportedly preparing a major product overhaul to coincide with the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, one of the standout innovations could be a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” with no display cutouts—suggesting a truly edge-to-edge design.
This vision aligns with recent reports from The Information, which noted that at least one 2027 iPhone model might feature an under-display front camera, eliminating the need for notches or punch-holes. Similarly, The Elec reported in late 2023 that Apple is collaborating with display manufacturers to develop a bezel-less iPhone. However, unlike Samsung and Vivo’s wraparound designs, Apple may avoid displays that curve down the sides.
What exactly Gurman means by “mostly glass, curved” remains somewhat ambiguous. Today’s iPhone 15 Pro already features a mostly glass construction, framed with titanium. One possible clue comes from a 2019 Apple patent, which describes a device enclosed in glass forming a seamless, continuous surface—a bold design concept that could finally see the light of day.
But 2027 may be about more than just the iPhone. Gurman anticipates several significant product launches that year:
- Foldable iPhone: Long rumored, it could finally debut.
- Smart Glasses: Apple’s response to Meta’s Ray-Ban wearables.
- Camera-equipped AirPods and Apple Watch: Enhancing media capture on the go.
- AI-powered Home Robot: A tabletop device with its own personality, potentially inspired by Apple’s internally developed robotic lamp prototypes.
Additionally, Gurman suggests that Apple could launch a major upgrade to Siri powered by a large language model (LLM), part of a broader AI expansion. This would likely be supported by custom server-side AI chips, reportedly developed by the same Israel-based team behind Apple Silicon—known for enabling the company’s transition away from Intel in 2020.
