Apple Prepares to Integrate Google Gemini with Apple Intelligence

Apple is gearing up to expand its AI capabilities by integrating Google’s Gemini into Apple Intelligence. Currently, Siri can route certain requests to ChatGPT for more context-aware responses, but Apple has hinted at broadening support for additional AI models. At WWDC24, Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, expressed interest in bringing other AI providers into the ecosystem, including Google Gemini. Now, a new leak suggests that this integration may be closer than expected.

According to code discovered by Aaron Perris on X, a backend update in iOS 18.4 beta includes options for both “Google” and “OpenAI” under third-party AI models in Apple Intelligence. While this doesn’t confirm that Gemini will arrive in iOS 18.4, it strongly suggests that Apple is laying the groundwork for its inclusion—possibly in a later iOS 18 update or even iOS 19. Apple is also expected to launch its own advanced conversational Siri model with iOS 19.

Google recently introduced its Gemini 2.0 models, including a new reasoning-focused model. These advancements could soon be available on iPhones—at least for those with an iPhone 15 Pro, the upcoming iPhone 16/16 Pro, or the rumored iPhone 16e.
