With politics becoming a key factor in dating, many popular dating apps are adding features to help users connect based on their political views as elections approach.
Tinder, for example, has rolled out a “Take Action Center,” which allows users to add profile stickers highlighting their voting plans and key political issues. Among the most popular stickers are “Hot people vote” and “Voting for reproductive rights.” This follows Tinder’s partnership with Vote.org, offering users election information like polling sites and registration deadlines.
Stephanie Danzi, Tinder’s global marketing senior VP, emphasizes that reproductive rights, a key issue in 10 states, are central to relationships and dating today. She adds that their goal is to educate users on the stakes involved in the upcoming elections.
On the other hand, OkCupid has expanded its matching questions, focusing on voter behavior to help users find more politically compatible matches. New prompts include questions about voting intentions for 2024 and important election issues. According to Michael Kaye, OkCupid’s brand marketing director, the app’s new approach reflects how users now talk less about specific candidates and more about larger political topics.
Conservative dating app The Right Stuff also tailors its experience to align with users’ shared values. Created in 2022 by John McEntee, a former Trump aide, the app includes prompts like “Favorite liberal lie” and “January 6 was,” encouraging user input on political views, though marketing director Raquel Debono stresses that the app doesn’t aim to be overtly political.
Overall, as politics plays a larger role in dating, these platforms are adjusting their features to match users based on both personal and political compatibility.
