Deezer is the latest music streaming service to unveil an AI-driven playlist feature. Announced on Monday, a select group of paid subscribers can now generate custom playlists using text prompts with Deezer’s new “Playlist with AI” feature.
This development follows Spotify and Amazon Music, which recently began testing personalized AI playlist generators with their users. YouTube is also reportedly exploring a prompt-based AI radio feature.
Deezer states that 5% of its paying subscribers will have access to this beta feature. Users can create playlists by entering written prompts that specify moods, genres, decades, activities, and other criteria.
For example, you could ask Deezer to craft an early 2000s pop-rock playlist for your workout or a 2010s feel-good playlist for your study session.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this AI-powered feature to Deezer users globally,” said Alexandra Leloup, VP of Product at Deezer, in a press release. “Whether you need the perfect soundtrack for a workout, a romantic evening, or a nostalgic trip down memory lane, our Playlist with AI feature will create a new musical experience in seconds and offers endless possibilities for discovering new music.”
Deezer highlights its ongoing use of AI to improve recommendations and the overall user experience on its platform. Its signature feature, Flow, uses AI to create mixes based on moods and genres. Additionally, Deezer’s Song Catcher, a Shazam-like feature, leverages AI to help users identify song titles.
Deezer has not yet announced when the Playlist with AI beta will be more widely available.
