Gemini Can Now Summarize Your Google Drive Videos

Google is bringing new AI capabilities to Drive, making it easier than ever for Workspace users to understand the contents of their saved videos—without watching them.

The Gemini AI, which already summarizes documents and PDFs in Google Drive, can now do the same for video files. This update means you can ask Gemini to pull out key details from a video, like listing action points from a recorded meeting or highlighting major announcements in a product update, saving you the time and effort of watching and taking notes yourself.

To use this feature, videos must have captions enabled. You can access Gemini’s video summarization through the overlay preview in Drive or by opening the video in a new browser tab. The tool is currently available in English and is rolling out to Google Workspace users, Google One AI Premium members, and those with Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons. Full availability may take a few weeks.

Alongside this update, Google is also enhancing video analytics in Drive. The built-in video player now includes engagement data, showing how many times a video has been viewed. This data appears in the “Analytics” section of the Details panel, helping users better understand how their content is performing.
