Google is simplifying the process of keeping track of your Google Meet calls on desktop Chrome, where they can easily get lost among your open tabs. The company is now introducing a feature that automatically launches a Google Meet call in picture-in-picture mode when you switch tabs, as detailed in a recent blog post.
In a demonstration shared by Google through a GIF, when you navigate away from an active Google Meet call, a new Meet window automatically appears elsewhere on your screen, allowing you to monitor the ongoing conversation. This feature is especially useful when you need to focus on a document being discussed, rather than, say, sneaking a glance at your Threads feed.
This picture-in-picture function is not restricted to premium users; Google has confirmed that it is available to “all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.”
Additionally, if needed, you can manually activate picture-in-picture mode during a call.
