Meta has teamed up with Oakley to launch a new line of smart glasses aimed at performance and active lifestyles. The limited-edition model, called Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced “how-stuhn”), is priced at $499 and will be available for preorder starting July 11th. Additional Oakley styles featuring Meta’s technology will follow later this summer, starting at $399.
Similar to the popular Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, the Oakley version comes equipped with a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and built-in microphones. Once paired with a smartphone, the glasses can stream music or podcasts, handle calls, and interact with Meta AI. Thanks to the integrated camera and microphones, Meta AI can also provide information about your surroundings and translate languages in real time.
Designed with athletes in mind, the new Oakley glasses offer practical features such as IPX4 water resistance and an impressive 8-hour battery life, double that of the Meta Ray-Bans. The included charging case extends usage to up to 48 hours. Video capabilities have also been upgraded, with the camera now recording in 3K resolution, a notable step up from the 1080p in previous models.
The launch lineup includes five different frame and lens combinations, all of which can be fitted with prescription lenses for an additional cost. Frame color options include warm grey, black, brown smoke, and clear, while lens choices feature multiple tints and transition options. The standout limited-edition model features gold accents and Oakley’s signature gold PRIZM lenses.
These smart glasses will be available in 17 countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia.
This launch is part of a broader partnership between Meta and EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear giant behind both Oakley and Ray-Ban. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have already sold over 2 million pairs, and the company aims to reach 10 million units annually by 2026.
“This is our first step into the performance category,” said Alex Himel, Meta’s VP of wearables. “There’s more to come.”
