If you’re a product manager aiming for a job at Meta, you’re in luck: the company has released a detailed guide on what to expect during the interview process and how to excel.
According to the guide, the interview process begins with an initial screening designed to evaluate a candidate’s product sense and analytical abilities. If successful, candidates move on to a “full loop” interview, which assesses their leadership skills and career aspirations.
The interviews will “focus on your product knowledge, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and overall awareness,” the guide explains.
“You might be asked to discuss a product you believe is exceptional, explain why it’s great, and describe what you would do if you were the product manager or CEO of that company,” the guide notes. “Other questions could involve examining an existing product within the Meta ecosystem, such as Facebook Groups or Instagram Small Businesses, and suggesting ways to improve it.”
Aakash Gupta, a product leader who authors a newsletter on product growth, shared Meta’s guide on LinkedIn.
“Be creative—the top candidates come up with unique solutions that others don’t consider,” Gupta wrote on LinkedIn. “You should be capable of taking a feature from concept to completion, even with just a sketch, within 45 minutes.”
The six-page guide outlines what questions to expect during the interview and what background knowledge candidates should have.
“Meta and Google interview most product managers because top talent is so scarce. To streamline this process, they’ve made all the information available to ensure the process is as fair and accurate as possible,” Gupta told Business Insider.
Jenn Bouchard, the former global head of talent at Meta, previously mentioned to Business Insider that one of the biggest mistakes candidates make is not asking enough questions.
Interviewees should demonstrate curiosity about the role, the company, its culture, and the team they might be joining, Bouchard advised.
