Meta has entered into a licensing agreement with generative AI startup Midjourney, bringing the company’s advanced “aesthetic technology” into the social giant’s future AI models and products.
The collaboration, announced Friday by Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, will connect the research teams of both companies. The move underscores Meta’s strategy to sharpen the visual quality of its AI systems as it races to keep pace with rivals like OpenAI and Google.
Midjourney, best known for turning text prompts into striking digital images, currently operates on a subscription-based model. Wang praised the startup’s capabilities in a post on X, noting that Meta’s approach to building the best AI products combines world-class talent, robust computing resources, and partnerships with industry leaders.
For Meta, the partnership could accelerate the rollout of new creative tools for users and marketers alike, helping lower production costs while boosting engagement on its platforms.
The deal also comes as Meta reshapes its AI division under the Superintelligence Labs banner—a high-profile effort to reset momentum after several senior departures and muted reception for its latest open-source model, Llama 4.
Neither Meta nor Midjourney immediately commented on the partnership.
