OpenAI reportedly plans to increase ChatGPT’s price to $44 within five years

OpenAI is reportedly planning to raise the subscription fee for ChatGPT to $22 per month by the end of this year, with intentions to gradually increase it to $44 per month within five years, according to sources. The information comes from documents reviewed by The New York Times.

In August alone, OpenAI generated $300 million in revenue and expects to hit $3.7 billion in sales by the year’s end. Despite this revenue growth, the company faces significant losses, with projections showing a $5 billion shortfall due to various costs, including salaries and operational expenses.

These financial projections are part of OpenAI’s efforts to secure additional investments. The company is reportedly seeking to raise new funds at a valuation of $150 billion, with hopes of bringing in up to $7 billion in fresh capital to address the financial gap.

Additionally, OpenAI is reportedly transitioning from its original non-profit structure to a for-profit model. This shift would remove limits on investor returns, allowing for greater flexibility in negotiations and potentially attracting more investment at higher stakes.
