OpenAI starts roll-out of advanced voice mode to some ChatGPT Plus users

OpenAI has begun deploying its advanced voice mode to a select group of ChatGPT Plus users, as announced by the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup on Tuesday via a post on X.

Originally slated for late June, the launch of this realistic voice conversation feature was pushed to July to ensure it met the company’s standards. This new audio functionality enables users to engage in real-time spoken interactions with ChatGPT, allowing them to interrupt the AI while it’s speaking—key aspects of creating lifelike conversations that AI assistants have struggled with.

In June, OpenAI disclosed enhancements to the model’s ability to identify and block certain content, alongside efforts to enhance user experience and scale its infrastructure.

As part of its ongoing push to innovate in generative AI, OpenAI is continuing to develop new products, aiming to maintain its lead in the rapidly expanding AI market where businesses are eager to integrate the technology.
