Apple is still actively rolling out updates for iOS 18, a process expected to continue for several months. Despite this, discussions about iOS 19 have already started. For many iPhone users, the burning question is not just what features iOS 19 will bring but whether their current devices will support the update.
According to a report from the French website iPhoneSoft, all iPhone models currently eligible for iOS 18 will also receive iOS 19. If your iPhone is already running iOS 18, you can expect to see iOS 19 available for your device as well. However, as with previous updates, older models may not support every feature included in iOS 19.
If the report proves accurate, the oldest iPhone models to receive iOS 19 will be the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, all released in 2018. Unfortunately, the news isn’t as optimistic for users of older iPads. For instance, the seventh-generation iPad, launched in 2019 and powered by the A10 processor, is not expected to receive the iPadOS 19 update.
Developer previews for iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 are anticipated to launch during Apple’s WWDC 2025 event in June. The stable versions of both operating systems should then become available in September 2025. Notably, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that iOS 19 might adopt a staggered release schedule, similar to the rollout of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.
These Apple Intelligence features have been introduced incrementally through updates like iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, with additional enhancements planned for iOS 18.4. According to iPhoneSoft, iOS 19 may include fewer new features overall compared to iOS 18, aside from updates tied to Apple Intelligence.
For owners of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, this news means at least one more year of software support. Whether these models will also support iOS 20 in 2026 remains uncertain at this point. For now, users of these devices can look forward to continued updates and new features with iOS 19.
