Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has revealed that the company’s iconic search engine is on the cusp of a major evolution. Speaking at the NYT’s DealBook Summit, Pichai stated, “Google Search will change profoundly in 2025. We’ll be able to address more complex questions than ever before.”
Pichai hinted at significant advancements just around the corner: “I think you’ll be surprised, even early in ‘25, by the new capabilities Search will offer compared to today.”
The CEO also addressed a remark from Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella, who earlier suggested Google was the “default winner” in the AI race. Pichai countered with confidence, saying, “I would love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft’s models versus ours.” He also noted that Microsoft heavily relies on models developed by OpenAI, highlighting Google’s commitment to its own proprietary advancements.
Pichai described the coming changes as the beginning of a “profound shift,” emphasizing that Google is at the forefront of innovation. “There’s so much ahead. We are committed to staying at the cutting edge in this field, and I believe we’re succeeding,” he said.
Google has already begun its AI transformation of Search this year, introducing features like AI-generated search summaries and a video-powered update to Google Lens. Additionally, the company is gearing up for a significant upgrade to its Gemini AI model to remain competitive against Microsoft, OpenAI, and the emerging AI search engine Perplexity.
The next phase of Google Search promises to redefine how users interact with information online, leveraging cutting-edge AI to deliver unprecedented functionality.
