A Shift in Public Sentiment
The report points to a noticeable rise in concern around AI, particularly in the United States. Key areas driving this anxiety include job security, access to healthcare, and broader economic stability. These concerns reflect a grounded, day-to-day perspective: people are evaluating AI through the lens of personal impact rather than technological potential.
Recent data reinforces this shift. A study by Gallup shows that Gen Z is increasingly skeptical, expressing frustration and declining optimism toward AI — even as adoption remains high, with many using AI tools on a daily or weekly basis. This signals a paradox: usage is growing, but trust is not keeping pace.
Two Conversations About AI
Inside the tech ecosystem, the focus often revolves around long-term scenarios such as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) — a theoretical form of AI capable of matching or exceeding human intelligence across all domains. Outside that bubble, the conversation is far more immediate:

A Mixed Outlook on AI’s Future
Despite rising concerns, global sentiment toward AI is not entirely negative. The share of people who believe AI brings more benefits than drawbacks increased slightly from 55% in 2024 to 59% in 2025.
However, this optimism is tempered by emotion: the percentage of individuals who say AI makes them feel “nervous” also increased, from 50% to 52% over the same period.
