WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to add short music clips to their Status updates, bringing a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the Myspace era.
Status, similar to Instagram Stories, lets users share photos, videos, and text that disappear after 24 hours. With this update, users can tap on a music note icon while creating a Status to browse and select from millions of available songs. Music clips can be up to 15 seconds long for photo-based Status updates and up to 60 seconds for videos.
This addition follows Meta’s recent updates to Instagram, where users can now add songs to their profiles, Notes, and posts. However, WhatsApp’s version comes with a key distinction—end-to-end encryption. This ensures that only friends can see the shared songs, and even WhatsApp itself cannot access them.
The feature is being gradually rolled out worldwide and will become available to more users in the coming weeks.
