YouTube is trialing a new “Premium Lite” subscription that offers an ad-reduced experience at nearly half the price of its full Premium plan. At $8.99 per month, Premium Lite comes in at a lower cost compared to the $16.99 regular Premium, although it doesn’t include features like ad-free YouTube Music, background play, or offline downloads.
While Premium Lite provides fewer ads in most videos, ads will still appear in music content and shorts. Currently, YouTube is testing this service in select regions, including Germany, Thailand, and Australia.
There’s no word yet on whether this option will expand to other markets like India, where the regular Premium subscription is priced at Rs 149 monthly. If Premium Lite is introduced there, it could be priced around Rs 75.
This new offering comes as YouTube evaluates the impact of rising subscription prices, looking to provide users with a more affordable middle ground.
