YouTube Tests Sleep Timer Feature That Will Automatically Pause Playback for Premium Users

YouTube is currently testing a new feature designed for users who like to watch videos before falling asleep. This feature, known as Sleep Timer, allows viewers to set a specific time for video playback to pause automatically, helping them avoid leaving content running all night. This experimental feature is available for a limited period, and its wider release will depend on user feedback.

In addition to Sleep Timer, YouTube is also experimenting with a new AI-powered tool called Gemini. This tool aims to assist content creators by generating video outlines from text prompts, as well as suggesting video titles and thumbnails.

YouTube shared details about the Sleep Timer feature in a recent announcement on its website. The feature is simple to use: users can access it by opening the YouTube app on their smartphone or desktop, playing a video, and navigating to the settings menu (accessible via the gear icon in the video interface). Users must be logged into their account to access this feature.

Within the settings, the Sleep Timer allows users to choose from several options, pausing the video after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. There’s also an option to stop autoplay once the current video ends. However, this feature is currently only available to YouTube Premium subscribers.

As this is an experimental feature, users need to manually enable it. Premium users can do this by going to the Settings menu on YouTube’s homepage and selecting the option to try new experimental features. It’s important to note that the Sleep Timer feature is only available until September 2.

The Sleep Timer is particularly beneficial for those who enjoy watching videos before bed but don’t want to worry about stopping playback or draining their battery overnight.
